EN-RegulationsXIII Km Vertical do Fanal
The KV do Fanal is a short but demanding vertical challenge, with approximately 3,980 meters of distance and 1,000 meters of vertical gain. The race starts in the village of Ribeira Funda, at the entrance of the second tunnel, and finishes near the Fanal lagoon at 1,078 meters above sea level.
The course climbs continuously through steep trails, technical sections, and paths surrounded by the lush Laurissilva forest — a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. This diverse terrain demands strength, consistency, and smart pacing, as the effort is constant from start to finish.
First held in 2010, the KV do Fanal was one of the first races of its kind in Madeira and has been organized ever since by Clube de Montanha do Funchal.
