Eurafrica is the dream of uniting the two shores of the Strait of Gibraltar. To tell the story of this historic, remote and unique place through a mountain race in stages. Our aim is to link the cultures and nature of this territory through sport.
Eight years have passed since Eurafrica Trail started, and after seven editions, we keep intact the illusion and commitment to visit the villages, mountains and trails of the Strait.
The main novelty for 2023 will be the incorporation of the beautiful city of Tetouan as the venue for the event. With this entry, the event will consist of two stages in Spain, one in Gibraltar and two in Morocco.
The race will start with the delivery of welcome packs in Tarifa, on Friday 27th October, from where we will move in the early afternoon towards Gibraltar, for the celebration of the first stage, the Gibraltar Vertical Race, 5K and 500mD+, as well as celebrating the opening ceremony in the beautiful cave of San Miguel.
On Saturday 28th October we will enjoy the village of Estación de Gaucín, in the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera (Málaga), where the longest stage of the event awaits us, 25K and 1.000mD+ between the natural parks of Grazalema and Alcornocales, between the stone and the forests, with trails along the Guadiario river, climbs and stretches along the traditional cork extraction routes, a traditional industry of the area.
On Sunday 29th October a beautiful half marathon through the Mediterranean forests of the Alcornocales Natural Park of Algeciras (Cadiz) awaits us, enjoying its technical trails, its fast tracks and the breathtaking views of the Strait of Gibraltar. 21K and 1,100mD+ for this third stage in Cadiz.
From there, we will depart to Tarifa, where we will take the ferry that will take us to the African continent, arriving first to the port of Tangier, and from there, we will take the bus to Camp Africa, in M'Diq.
On Monday 30th October the legend of the Jbel Musa returns, with its mythical half marathon, on the limestone mass that houses our Skyrace. 21K and 1,400mD+ await you on a technical route, without rest, pure mountain, starting and finishing in the fishing village of Belyounech.
On Tuesday 31st October, Tetouan will make its debut for the first time in seven editions, with a spectacular half marathon on the limestone ridge of the Moroccan Rif, between Kabilas, small villages, valleys and ploughed fields, starting in the Bou Anan district and crowning peaks such as the Jbel Ghorguiz. A grand finale: 21km and 1,200mD+ to bring this edition of Eurafrica to an end.
That Tuesday afternoon, we will return to travel the 14kms of the Strait of Gibraltar on the return ferry between Tangier and Tarifa, to put an end to this great adventure of five days, three cultures and two continents.
